WHO WE ARE
I am passionate about knitting! It has been a part of my life for almost 50 years.
I started crocheting at a very early age. I grew up in a neighborhood with mostly boys and because of that my mom wouldn’t let me out of the house much. A neighbor took pity on me and taught me how to crochet. And for many years, I crocheted up a storm.
Then I grew up, finished high school, and joined the US Navy.
A few years later, I got married and went to live on a farm in southwest Kansas. This city girl was not used to so much quiet and was totally bored.
This time my ex-mother-in-law took pity on my and taught me how to knit. Not only how to knit but also how to read the patterns and decipher the legends. For that I will forever be grateful to her.
About 6 years ago, I decided I wanted an online one-of-a-kind hand knitted hat/scarf store. So, I started knitting hats and scarfs. And I went on a learning journey.
It was incredible to me that there were so many different stitches, cast-on’s, cable stitches, and methods of knitting to learn. (Like the Chinese Waitress Cast-on…go figure.)
One of the first things that caught my eye was Brioche knitting. What an adventure that was: learning to knit Brioche items. But I did it!! After about a year of “starts”, I learned to knit the Brioche hats and scarves in my store. I have done countless classes learning new techniques and tackling new challenges.
I work with a variety of materials ranging from acrylic, which is soft and easy to wash to natural materials like cashmere, bamboo, baby alpaca, silk, and different varieties of wool (which can also be hand laundered; see care instructions). I purchase yarn from suppliers (large and small) all over the planet and have enjoyed learning about materials, dyes, and ecological techniques.
My trademark is one-of-a-kind items; however, I will consider doing a custom order of more than one of the same item. Also, if you like the design of a hat/scarf but not the color (or vis versa), please email me to discuss making exactly the hat/scarf you want.
About The Sizing On The Hats:
Small, medium, or large can be misleading because you don’t know the dimensions of each one.
For that reason, I stay away from using those terms. In the description for each hat, I add the head dimensions the hat will fit. If you measure your head starting in the middle of the forehead and going around in a circle, you will get your head dimensions and will be able to buy the current hat size.
